Lingual Braces

Lingual braces

Lingual orthodontics is the name given to the treatment using braces on the inside of the mouth where they cannot be seen. The brackets are bonded to the lingual surface (back of the tooth), unlike the normal process of sticking brackets on the buccal surface (front of the tooth).

Lingual treatment is based on the same principles as normal fixed appliances, however the practical treatment is more technical and time demanding on the orthodontist, and the bracket requires a different design. This method of treatment is most suitable for adults and children who require orthodontic treatment, but would prefer not to have the brackets visible.

Lingual treatment uses small metal brackets that are bonded to the tongue side of the tooth (lingual). Normal mouth movements such as talking or eating will not show the brackets, only when the mouth is opened wide can the brackets be seen. No one even need know you are undergoing treatment!

Harmony® self-ligating lingual braces

The Harmony® system is engineered to be small and smooth, which helps you adapt quickly and comfortably to your orthodontic treatment. The self ligating technology that is built into the Harmony® system offers more control in the hands of your orthodontist to achieve precise tooth alignment. Self ligating technology does away with elastic O-rings, so friction in the system is reduced which leads to a more comfortable experience throughout treatment.
