Metal Braces

Metal braces

Metal braces are more visually appealing than in the past, with smaller brackets and a range of colour options for both the brackets and the elastics, they are usually the choice of most teenaged patients. Sarah bonds the metal brackets directly onto the teeth then a flexible wire fits through slots in the brackets to connect and hold the braces together. Small bands, known as elastic ligatures hold the wire in place. The elastics come in a wide variety of colours and are changed at each appointment. The materials in braces are usually strong, and metal braces are highly durable.

In some cases, we may ask you to wear larger elastic bands between the upper and lower jaw to help correct the way the teeth bite together. Adjustment appointments are usually every 4–6 weeks during the brace treatment. Self ligating metal braces like Damon can be a quicker treatment option in some cases.

Damon® clear braces

The Damon System is not just about revolutionary braces and wires, it's a whole new way of treating patients. Traditional treatment often requires removal of healthy teeth and/or the use of palatal expanders to make space. This approach is often uncomfortable, takes longer, and can leave a narrower arch and a flat profile. Damon smiles are full, natural 10-tooth smiles achieved with light biologically-sensible forces, and are specifically designed to improve the overall facial result of each patient.

Benefits of Damon® system include:

  • Strong materials used and therefore quicker results
  • Compact designs allows for easier cleaning around brackets, and therefore easier to maintain good oral hygiene
